Poor Boy

It has been a crazy week at our house. Harley has allergies that get him into all kinds of trouble. When his allergies are acting up, he itches his legs, shakes his ears, and rubs his butt on the floor. Its lots of fun. Fortunately, when we notice him starting this, we break out the Benedryll and that usually covers things…except to for this time. I noticed him shaking his ears and itching his side last weekend. I started the Benedryll twice daily. Nothing. Then I increased it to 2 tabs every 6 hours…still nothing. I noticed he was itching a bloody spot on his side above his front shoulder, so I got some “anti-itch cream” from Petsmart and increased the Benedryll to 3 tabs every 8 hours. Fast forward to Monday when I noticed he was getting a pretty good sized wound on his shoulder. I made a mental note to wash it down and put some neosporin on it when I got home from work. Well, Nathan called that afternoon and reported that Harley had itched until he was bloody and all the hair had come out…NICE! So, to the vet we went, and there we shaved the area, washed it down, got a shot of steroid, and came home with antibiotics. I LOVE MY VET. They always take care of us. So now, Harley has been in such a bad mood. We have resorted to putting an ace bandage on the boy and covering it with my old t-shirt. As you can imagine, he is not happy. He has been hiding under the computer desk the entire week. This morning, he was hiding under the bed and he got stuck and couldn’t get out. It has been very sad.

Here he is this morning. He finally has decided that he will go out on the deck and sit for a while. Apparently, things are looking up!
