Game night

Yesterday we had such a great time with great friends. Normally the hub and I are very much home-bodies. We would much rather cook a home cooked meal rather than dine out. We have not seen a movie at an actual theater since we were engaged in 2006. In the summer we used to plan “puppy parties” where everyone we knew would come over with their dogs and the dogs would play in the yard and the “adults” would play in the house. I would cook a meal and the dogs would get a doggy cake. Lots of pictures would be taken. Then, I went to grad school and all my friends starting having kids. Puppy parties have been a thing of the past. So, we were overjoyed when one of our good friends invited us up for game night. It was a small gathering of only 3 couples and 2 kids. We ate pizza and Doritos, ice cream, and drank enough soda to sustain a rather large sugar buzz. We played only 2 hands of Yahtzee which I lost both hands. The rest of the time was spend with good conversation and lots of laughs. It was just what I was needing. It is amazing how easy it is to get into a rut and just go to work and come home to sleep. Life tends to feel like it passes me by sometimes. We all need to stop every once in a while and smell the proverbial roses. Everytime I spend time with friends, I say “We should do this more often”… but…we should totally do this more often! I think this summer I foresee a return of the puppy party. I just need to find a way to keep the children and the puppies a little separate. I may have my work cut out for me!
